How To Get Brighter Skin (in 5 steps)
THE MURMURE TEAM
You follow all the steps, drink your water, and yet, your skin still looks a little...meh. The good news? A brighter complexion is totally within reach—you just need to use the right ingredients. Let’s break it down.
Step 1: Exfoliate
If your skin looks dull, chances are dead skin cells are overstaying their welcome. Chemical exfoliation is your best friend here. Look for AHAs like glycolic acid and lactic acid to gently resurface the skin, or try PHAs if your skin is on the sensitive side. Salicylic acid is another great option, especially if you're prone to breakouts, as it penetrates deep into the pores to help clear away impurities and dead skin. Want a botanical boost? Pineapple and papaya enzymes offer a gentler, fruit-powered exfoliation that sweeps away dullness without irritation.
Step 2: Antioxidants Are Your Glow-Boosting BFFs
Free radicals are the enemy of radiance, and antioxidants are here to fight back. Vitamin C is the gold standard, helping to fade dark spots and protect against environmental stressors. But don’t sleep on botanical extracts—sea buckthorn, kakadu plum, licorice root, and cloud-berry extract are packed with naturally occurring brightening compounds that can work just as hard as their lab-made counterparts. Cloud-berry contains five times more vitamin C than an orange, making it a powerhouse ingredient for skin luminosity.
Step 3: Hydration, Hydration, Hydration
Dull skin is often dehydrated skin. A well-hydrated complexion reflects light better, giving you that lit-from-within look. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are both excellent humectants, helping to draw moisture into the skin, while ceramides work to lock in that hydration and strengthen the skin's barrier. Step 4: Target Dark Spots
If stubborn pigmentation is dulling your glow, it’s time to bring in the big guns. Niacinamide helps even out skin tone while improving barrier function. Tranexamic acid is another great choice for brightening stubborn spots. You can also try bearberry extract or arbutin, which naturally inhibit excess melanin production without irritation.
Step 5: SPF—Non-Negotiable
Nothing dims your skin faster than UV damage. A daily SPF of at least 30 is essential to protect your hard-earned glow.
Step 6: Be Consistent
Brighter skin doesn’t happen overnight, but with the right ingredients—and a little patience—you’ll get there. Consistency is key, but so is listening to your skin. Overdoing it with actives can lead to irritation, which is basically the opposite of brightening.
